Air force command indicates today (11th) that the construction unit cause the turf on fire due to incautious welding as doing airport facilities reengineering recently in Chiayi Base.  The fire was put off immediately by fire squad of the base.  Neither personnel nor equipment was damaged and the flight safety is not affected.

Air force command is deeply sorry for the unrest of surrounding public due tothe fire caused by negligence of construction unit.  The base has convened construction safety review meeting.  The construction unit is asked to suspend the construction temporary and the work will not be resumed until the contractor has provided practical measure regarding the construction safety and management as reviewed and approved by the supervision and handling unit to keep base and surrounding people in safe.
